We are well and truly in countdown mode here at Three Sisters HQ, with just two weekends to go until the European Union’s European Capital of Culture selection panel arrives for its all-important visit. And on July 15th, we will finally know whether Three Sisters will be crowned the European Capital of Culture 2020.

We couldn’t have made it this far without you, and we are hugely grateful for the support you have shown for the Bid. Now that we are in the last few crucial days before the decision, we are still counting on you to help us win!

Even with all the final preparations going on here, we are still concerned about you enjoying your Three Sisters weekend, so as usual, we’ve put together our top pick of the region’s best events.

Jazz Hands at the Ready in Kilkenny:  Three Sisters musicians from across Waterford, Wexford and Kilkenny are coming together for an amazing night showcasing the musical collaboration across the region. The Hole in the Wall in Kilkenny will play host to this evening of musical entertainment, on Friday July 1st at 9pm. Renowned jazz drummer Kevin Lawlor, will lead a group of musicians in performing jazz music with a 21st century twist. Bowie fans will be in for a special treat, as this particular style of jazz featured strongly in his last album, Black Star. Bad Plus, GoGo Penguin, Joshua Redman and more will also perform during this special evening. Tickets are priced at €10.

Phenomenal Phun on the Promenade in Waterford: Tens of thousands of people are expected to gather by the seaside in beautiful Tramore, Waterford for the Tramore Promenade Festival, running on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd July. The award-winning festival promises astounding fun for the whole family, with spectacular air shows, defence forces displays, street theatre, magic shows, live music and an artisan food and craft centre. And if that’s not enough for you, Three Sisters will be on site with our cool culture cabin, so why not pop along and show your support for the Bid? You never know what treats we might have! Independence Day in Wexford: A giant celebration of stars and stripes is planned for New Ross, as the town prepares to celebrate its unique links with the U.S. during its annual July 4th event. The Irish-America three day festival runs from Friday July 1st to Monday July 4th, and will celebrate the best of Irish and American music, food and culture. Multi-platinum musicians and performers The High Kings will join Paddy Casey, Finbarr Clancy, Martin Furey and more on the main stage in the Town Park. The vibrant atmosphere of the Quayside will play host to the Ross Food and Craft Fest every day of the event. Picnic in the Park and the South Street Fresco are also returning due to popular demand, while there will be fireworks, carnivals, town criers and more!
